Sildenafil

Sildenafil or Sildenafil citrate is a type of drug that helps treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is currently being sold nowadays under various trademarks like Revatio, Viagra, and many more. Sildenafil, developed originally by British scientists, was brought to the market by Pfizer (a United States-based pharmaceutical company).

Since its official market release in 1998, it has been the prime cure for impotence for men or erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil (Viagra) pills are blue and shaped like a diamond, with “Pfizer” engraved on one side, and “VGR xx” on the other side. Sildenafil (Revatio) pills are coloured white, round, and are film-coated tablets.

How does Sildenafil work?

Erectile dysfunction is the inability of a man to maintain a satisfactory erection to complete sexual intercourse. Sildenafil citrate (under the trademark Viagra) helps to cure this kind of disability by slowing down an enzyme that causes the degradation of cGMP (responsible for regulating the flow of the blood in the penis) called cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5. In fact, nowadays, it is the standard treatment for impotence for men in all settings, including diabetes.

People who are on antidepressants may also experience sexual dysfunction, either due to their sickness or as an effect of their treatment. However, during a study conducted in 2003, it showed that Sildenafil has greatly improved the sexual capabilities of men who are in this situation. Moreover, following up reports from 1999, it has also been proved that Sildenafil can also help in improving the sexual function of women who are on antidepressants as well.

Aside from impotence, Sildenafil (under the trademark Revatio) can also help in treating a rare disease known as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension or PAH. It acts by relaxing the arterial wall which leads to decreasing the pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance. As a result, the workload of the right ventricle of the heart is reduced and can greatly help improve the symptoms of right-sided heart failure.

How do I take Sildenafil?

This medication should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. It should be taken not more than once a day, 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual intercourse. The dosage for PAH, on the other hand, is three times a day.

Are there side effects?

Based on clinical trials, the most frequent side effects of Sildenafil include headache, dyspepsia, flushing, nasal congestion, and impaired vision (blurred vision and photophobia). There are also reports where patients experience blurriness and loss of peripheral vision.

Can I buy Sildenafil online?

Buying Sildenafil online is very easy. Remember Sildenafil is actually sold as Viagra. However, you have to complete a free online consultation form. This procedure substitutes the face-to-face consultation process with your doctor in order to obtain a prescription. As soon as the medication has been approved, it will be delivered to you in less than 48 hours.
