How does Zoely work?
Zoely is a form of oral contraceptive, which means it is used to prevent pregnancy. It helps to prevent pregnancy in a number of ways. Firstly, it inhibits the release of the egg by stopping it from maturing. Secondly, it alters the cervical mucus consistency; this makes it hard for the sperm to get to the egg. Lastly, the pills alter the lining of the uterus; this makes it less appropriate for implantation.
Zoely is a combined oral contraceptive. This means that the pills have a combination of 2 steroid hormones that are 17-beta estradiol (this is estrogen which is the same as that produced by your ovaries in terms of structure) and nomegestrol acetate (this is a steroidal progestin which copies progesterone that is naturally occurring).
How do I take Zoely?
A pack of Zoely has a total of 28 tablets; 24 of those tablets are white and they contain active substances, and 4 tablets are yellow and they do not have any active substances. When starting a new strip, make sure that you take the first white tablet, which is in the top left-hand corner. From there onwards, make sure that you take one tablet at roughly the same time on a daily basis. You can take the tablet with or without water.
You must also take note of the arrows on the packet. They direct you to take the white tablets first and lastly the yellow ones. You should experience your period during those 4 days you are taking the yellow pills. This is known as the withdrawal bleed. Also make it a point that you begin taking the next pack soon after the yellow tablets are finished, even if you haven’t finished your period.
