How does Zantac work?
The ingredient in Zantac is ranitidine. Ranitidine is part of a group of medications called histamine-2 blockers. Ranitidine blocks the histamine H2 receptors located on cells in the lining of the stomach. Histamine which is produced by the body binds to these receptors, stomach acid is then produced by the cells. When Ranitidine blocks the H2 receptors, it stops histamine from attaching to them. In turn the cells can’t produce gastric acid alleviating the acid reflux.

The dose and the length of time you take Zantac will depend on the condition you are treating. Zantac is taken once to twice or as directed by your doctor.

I was on Zantac for 6-8 months to treat my Acid Reflux. I was on it to train my stomach to produce less acid. It was great. No heartburn or flare ups of the Acid Reflux. However, I did have reduced sex drive from it. When I was waiting for the prescription to be refilled all the suppressed sex drive from months of medication would hit me all at one time. I also had horrendous withdrawal form it. That is until I got the prescription refilled. Now I have very few flare ups. They went from making me vomit and lasting 3-5 days to maybe 1 day and making me a tad queasy. All in all good medication if you can get past the side effects.

My mother has been sick for years… when I say years… I mean I’m 39 I can remember her not being able to keep food down when I was a teenager. She’s had every medical procedure, every treatment you can imagine. She’s on medication for other illness (antipsychotic meds) but nothing has ever worked for her. Had pain in my stomach about 20 to 30 minutes after eating for the last 3 years. Was not taking any medications for my stomach but my husband was taking zantac so one day I asked him if it would help me. He didn’t know so I would looked it up and found it helped a lot of conditions similar to mine. I realize I need an endoscopy but until I can make an appointment zantac is helping me a lot and I’m not suffering the continuous 24-hour pain that it had gotten to be over the last 6 months. Wish I had not waited so long to inquire about this medicine.

I had been prescribed this medication, I was to take it every morning and night to prevent my symptoms of GERD. I had done that for about a month or less, and I was also to take it when the pain had come. It worked wonderfully. I had stopped taking the medication, and then when I did need the pain to stop, the medication was and is still ineffective.

When I tell you that this little pill or ivy /Zantac liquid works WONDERS !!!! ive had/have the worst nauseous feeling bad diarrhea for the last five days as soon as I took this pill it jus sat there burning the food holding it down ahh man I’m so happy now relief of pain but also with a better diet it’s way better.

Have severe acid reflux. I take 300 mgs right be fore bed and it works wonders. I have been using Zantac for years! I wouldn’t leave the house without it! It’s my miracle drug!! ❤️

Have GERD and have been coughing for over a year. I was taking omeprazole. Dr. trIed me on zantac and in one day the coughing has almost stopped. Yaaay wished I had used it sooner.
