Description
How does Scheriproct work?
Scheriproct contains two active components: prednisolone hexanoate, which is a synthetic glucocorticoid that works to reduce inflammation, and cinchocaine hydrochloride, which is a local anaesthetic that relieves pain.
Prednisolone is used for reducing inflammation, which is caused by the release of various substances that are important to the immune system. Prednisolone works effectively to reduce the making of these substances. Applied around the area, Scheriproct acts to reduce the swelling, itching and pain of piles as well as relaxing spasms of the anal sphincter.
How do I use Scheriproct?
Before and after applying this medicine you should always wash your hands thoroughly. The infected area should also be thoroughly cleaned. This treatment can be used for 5 to 7 days but is not intended for long term use. Both Scheriproct ointment and Scheriproct suppositories should be used only after the bowels have been emptied.
The Scheriproct ointment can be used both internally and externally for the anal area and can be used twice a day, but up to four times a day in severe cases. To insert the ointment into the rectum, screw the nozzle gently on to the tube and gently place into the rectal passage. Squeeze a small amount into the rectal passage then remove slowly and carefully.
The suppositories are for use once a day and should be removed from their individual wrapper and placed carefully into the rectum. For ease of insertion, either stand with one foot raised on a chair or squat down. Remember to clean the nozzle thoroughly after each use.
