Description

How does Primolut N work?

Levels of sex hormones change throughout the month when women have their usual menstrual cycle. The hormones cause the ovaries to release an egg, a process known as ovulation and prepare the lining of the womb for possible pregnancy. If an egg hasn’t been fertilised at the end of the cycle, the hormones will drop and you will experience your monthly menstrual bleed.

How do I take Primolut N?

The dosage varies depending on what condition you are treating. We advise speaking to your doctor to find out more about the recommended dosage for conditions.

Amenorrhoea (no period) – Primolut N is usually taken 1-2 times per day for 10 days. This is after the patient has been presribed oestrogen for 14 days. Bleeding should then start 1-2 days after taking the last prescribed tablet.

Dysfunctional bleeding – One tablet is taken 3 times per day for 10 days. After the last tablet is taken a withdrawal bleed will occur.

Premenstrual syndrome- (delaying menstruation) – Primolut N can delay your period. Start on the beginning of you menstrual bleed. One tablet is taken 2-3 times per day for no more than 2 weeks. Once you stop taking the tablets you should have your period 2-3 days later.

Endometriosis – Primolut N is taken twice a day on the 1st and 5th day of your cycle. Treatment is for 4-6 months.
