How does NuvaRing work?
The NuvaRing is inserted inside the vagina walls on the first day of your menstrual cycle. Once the ring comes in contact with your vagina the hormones are released and absorbed into your bloodstream. Over a course of 3 weeks the ring will release a continuous dose of hormones known as estrogen and progestin.
The NuvaRing should then be taken out after 3 weeks. You should have a one-week break during which time you will be covered against pregnancy and experience your period. After the 7-day break re-insert another NuvaRing for protection.
Can the NuvaRing fall out?
It’s unlikely the NuvaRing will come out of the vagina. But if it does rinse the NuvaRing with water and reinsert it. Do not use any soap or detergent to wash the ring. If you feel the ring has moved out of place and need to adjust, this can simply be done by using your finger to push it back into place. To have continued protection it is best not to leave the ring out longer then 3 hours otherwise you may need to use another form of protection such as a condom.
