How does Domperidone work?
Domperidone is a type of medicine called a dopamine antagonist. Domperidone blocks the dopamine receptors found in part of the brain called the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ). By blocking the dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, it prevents nausea messages from being sent to the vomiting centre in the brain and this reduces the sensation of nausea and prevents vomiting.
How do I take Domperidone?
Domperidone is most often prescribed as a capsule or tablet to be taken orally. It is usually taken one hour before a meal at the same time daily or as directed by your doctor. Domperidone can stop food from flowing the incorrect direction through the stomach and prevents reflux.
Side effects
All medicines do have side effects associated with taking them however not everyone will suffer from them. All medication will come with side effect information from the manufactures. I have gastropheresis without diabetes also. No explation as to whay. I have a history of ulcers gastro and intestional. I get it from Diplomat pharmacy which is mail order and of course not covered by insurance. I spend $150.00 a month

I take domperidone for functional dyspepsia. For me, it is as effective as metoclopramide (Reglan), with no side effects and less risks. It is very effective and really helps me getting on with my daily life, without the heavy, bag-of-cement feeling in my stomach, which is so distressing. I have tried all sorts of supplements and diets for my condition, but this is something that does work for real. It is expensive over the counter (in Europe), but you can get prescriptions for it too.

I take this medication for severe gastroparesis, and it has been wonderful for me. I was on TPN via PICC line and unable to handle even smoothies before I started this drug. Tonight I ate a cheeseburger! My only issue with it is that my body builds a tolerance to it quickly, and my doctors have been reluctant to raise my dosage. I currently take 15mg TID.

I have gastroparesis. I had constant nausea, no vomiting, and lost 30lbs in six months. I took metoclopramide 10mg twice daily and developed side effects. My gastroenterologist then prescribed domperidone 10 mg twice daily from a compounding pharmacy. It has been very effective. I have no side effects and have been taking it in capsule form for four years.

This drug has helped my stomach so much! For months my gastro doc didn’t even know what I had, did many tests and he had no clue what to treat me with. I was losing weight (15-20lbs in 2 months), didn’t eat dinner, threw up constantly. Decided to leave that doctor and went to a new doc and he knew right away that I had gastroparesis! he prescribed domperidone at my first visit and it is a miracle! I get it from a pharmacy in New Zealand, takes forever to get to the US but its not much money at all!
