How does Brevinor work?
The active ingredients in Brevinor are, ethinylestradiol and norethisterone. They are synthetic versions of a naturally occurring sex hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. Every month when women have their usual menstrual cycle, levels of sex hormones change. Causing the ovaries to release an egg known as ovulation and getting the womb ready for possible pregnancy. If an egg hasn’t been fertilised at the end of the cycle, the hormones will drop and you will experience your monthly menstrual bleed.
How do I take Brevinor?
Brevinor should be started after a natural menstrual cycle. If this your first time using a hormonal contraceptive in the past month, start on the first day of your period. You may also start on days 2-5 of your period, but in that case make sure you also use additional barrier.
Brevinor has the same amount of hormones in every pill, this is called a monophasic pill. Some pills you would take for 28 days and then continue with a new packet. With Brevinor it is a 21 cycle. However you take the pill consecutively for 21 days and the stop for 7 days and have a rest. When you have a break from taking the pills you will encounter a bleed which is similar to your monthly period. You are protected from pregnancy throughout the whole month and yes even on the 7 days when you have no tablets.
But you must remember to start the new cycle after have a break from the pills for the week. This ensures you are still protected. Otherwise if you forget make sure to use another form of barrier protection.
