How does Anusol HC work?
Overall, the Anusol HC, being an anti-inflammatory drug, reduces itching and swelling. It comes in two forms: ointment and suppository.
The Anusol HC ointment contains 0.5% zinc sulfate monohydrate and 0.5% hydrocortisone acetate in petroleum base. Its other ingredients include calcium phosphate, petrolatum, poloxyl-2-oleylether and propylparaben.
The Anusol HC suppository contains 10mg of zinc sulfate monohydrate and 10mg of hydrocortisone acetate in triglyceride base. Other ingredients found in the Anusol-HC suppository are calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, propylparaben and triglyceride base among other ingredients.
Beyond the benefits of the Anusol-HC, people that are allergic to any of the ingredients mentioned above are not advised to take this medication. People with tuberculosis and other skin infections (bacterial, fungal or viral) are also prohibited to use this product.
How to use Anusol HC?
It is very easy to use the Anusol HC. Make sure that hands are clean and the infected area is washed and dried before application.
If using the ointment, apply the cream to the anus with the plastic applicator provided. Clean the applicator after use. For suppository usage, put in one suppository into the anus slowly until fully inserted. Both treatments must be taken two times a day – once in the morning and the other one in the evening. Keep in mind it’s best to apply the Anusol-HC after each bowel movement.
What are the side effects of Anusol HC?
Like many other medication, the Anusol HC also has its share of side effects including; dizziness, thinning skin, unusual weight gain, burning and/or itching of the skin, chills, diarrhea, fever, infection, rectal bleeding, dryness, itching or any form of pain not present before treatment, sensation of pins and needles and in some cases, stabbing pain.
However be aware not everyone suffers from side effects and sometimes the advantage of taking the medication and clearing the condition may be better then mild side effects. If you have any concerns it’s best to speak to a doctor before taking the medication.

I bought 12 @ $45.18 w/coupon. Most drug stores accept the coupons. Much better relief then Prep H. Use twice a day. Have bowel movement first. I’m doing Atkins Diet, so bad constipation, which does not help the condition. Now taking Colace, which helps. No fiber supplements, since they mess up Atkins Diet. In 6 weeks, I have lost 18 lbs. Felt so good that I went to the gym, just Treadmill and Elliptical for 5 miles. Felt itchy burning during workout, so I think exercise aggravated it, but exercise is good for constipation. Just bought another box of 12. Skipping exercise a few days this time. Stopping Atkins ”might” help relieve the swelling, but I’m committed to losing weight.
